What you need to hire a van

To pick up a van from us you will need a full driving licence held for at least 2 years, with the driver aged 25 or over. Bring photo ID and a recent proof of address, and be ready to leave a deposit, with 10% taken to secure the booking. If you are not certain which van suits your job, call the team first and we will talk it through before you commit.

What vehicle is best if I am moving to a new house?

For a typical house move, our Long Wheel-Based Vans or 3-metres are perfect. The vans are approximately 3.27 metres in length and 1.78 metres in height, but, if you think you still need more space or a bit of help lifting the larger and heavier items in, we can offer 4-metre and Luton Tail Lift Vans for hire too. The tail lifts are perfect if you’re moving ovens, washing machines and other household appliances.

Do I need insurance to rent a car or van?

At TCHire, all our vehicles come with breakdown, insurance and VAT included within the price. However, if you are a business who would prefer to insure the vehicles yourself that is not a problem. We will need a copy of the insurance certificate of the vehicle you are hiring to ensure it has been correctly insurance and is valid for the duration of the rental before we release the vehicles to you.

How fast can I hire a vehicle?

If it’s available, you can hire it on the same day! Call our office to book in your vehicle. If you send us an online enquiry, we will reply within 24HRS.

Can I return or pick-up a car outside the opening hours?

No, currently that is not a service we offer. All bookings and returns need to be made during office opening hours.

Monday – Friday: 8 am – 5:30 pm
Saturday: 8 am – 1:30 pm

Is there a deposit needed?

All vehicles require a deposit of a minimum of £300, this amount may vary depending your licence and insurance criteria. All deposits are refunded on safe return of vehicle.

What is a damage waiver and how does it work?

As a small family run business, we do not offer damage waivers, you are responsible for the vehicle during your hire period. For further information on how our insurance policy works call us on 01902 420 204.

Can I hire a van and minibus with a normal licence?

Our cars and vans can all be hired on a standard UK licence if you have had your licence for more than 3 years and are over the age of 25 (please inform the team of any point or recent bans you have).

To hire our 9-seater minibus, you can do so with a stand UK licence but for our 17-seater minibuses you must have the D1 category. You can find out if you do by checking the back of your licence, and many people who passed before 1997 automatically have this category on their licence.

Can I hire with a non-UK licence?

If you’re are looking to hire a vehicle with a non-UK licence, please visit our office or call us and tell us what licence you hold and how long you have held that licence. We can then help you moving forward.

Are there any age restrictions when hiring a vehicle?

The minimum age requirement is 25 years, while the maximum age varies depending on the vehicle's weight. For vehicles under 3.5 tonnes, the maximum age is 75. However, for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, the maximum age limit is 69. Additionally, drivers must possess the appropriate license categories for the requested vehicles and all drivers are required to have a minimum of 2 years driving experience

Can I still hire if I have points on my Licence or previous disqualifications?

Prior approval from our Insurer is required when you have previously been banned from driving or where more than 6 points on your driving licence and where the penalty convictions codes are something other than SP30, SP50 or CU80.

Can someone else drive the rental Vehicle?

Our Insurance policy is a named driver policy, meaning all drivers must be declared prior to driving the hire vehicle. All drivers are required to present their driving licence and can only drive the hire vehicle once permission has been granted by the Lessor (Terminus Contract Hire). Additional driver charges will apply for all additional drivers.

Can I take the Vehicle out of the UK?

We offer European hire Packages at an additional charge that include full European Breakdown and Insurance cover that allows you to take our hire vehicles abroad but please note that unless prior authorisation has been granted by Terminus Contract Hire, vehicles can not be taken outside of the United Kingdom.

What happened if I return the hire Vehicle Late?

All of our rentals are subject to a grace period of 30 minutes. If the hire vehicle is returned later than the grace period but within 4 hours after the rental period a part daily charge will be applied for each hour up to a maximum of four hours. Should the vehicle not be returned within 4 hours after the end of the rental period a full days rental charge shall be applied.

The part daily charge and full daily charge may differ from the original daily rate specified in the rental agreement. Please note all vehicles must be returned back during office opening hours and vehicles returned outside our office hours will not be checked until the next working day and additional days rental will be applicable.

Can I bring my pet in the hire vehicle?

Yes, pets are permitted in the hired vehicle, provided suitable precautions are taken to maintain cleanliness and prevent damage. We recommend using traveling cages or carriers to confine pets during transit. Additionally, we ask that you cover the seats or use protective materials to prevent pet hair or stains. This helps ensure that the vehicle remains clean and comfortable for all customers, especially those who may have allergies. Any excessive cleaning required due to pet hair or odours may result in additional cleaning fees.

Can I smoke in the Hire Vehicle?

No, smoking is strictly prohibited in all our hire vehicles. Smoking in the vehicle violates our terms of service and will result in additional cleaning fees and penalties.

What is the fuel policy for hire vehicles?

Our fuel policy operates on a like-for-like basis. When you receive the vehicle, it will have a certain level of fuel. We kindly ask that you return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when it was received. This ensures a fair and consistent approach for all customers. Failure to return the vehicle with the same fuel level may result in refuelling charges.

Are there any mileage restrictions on the hire vehicle?

All of our vehicle rentals are subject to mileage restrictions. Depending on the package you have opted for, the following mileage allowances apply:

1-6 days hire: 150 miles per day
Weekly rental package: 1000 miles per week
28-day Hire packages: 2500 miles per 28 days

If you exceed the mileage allowance specified in your rental package, an excess mileage fee will be applied. This fee is charged at 0.15p per mile after the allocated allowance.

Do you offer customer parking at your location?

Yes , we do offer customer parking; however, please note that spaces are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis. It is important to highlight that any vehicles left on- site are done so at the risk of the vehicle owner. Additionally, as part of our fire and safety responsibilities, we are required to retain the keys to any vehicle left on our premises. This is to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to facilitate any necessary movement of vehicles in case of emergencies.

Is breakdown cover included?

Yes complimentary breakdown cover is included with your rental. If you experience a Breakdown during our office opening hours , please contact our office immediately where a member of our team will guide you through the next steps and arrange assistance as needed.

What happens in the event of an accident?

In the unfortunate event of an accident, it's essential to gather as much information as possible. This includes taking down the third party's registration details, drivers' names, insurance details, and capturing photos of the damage caused to both vehicles, as well as the location of the accident.

After ensuring everyone's safety and well-being, please contact our office as soon as possible to notify us of the accident. Our team will guide you through the next steps and provide assistance as needed. You will be required to complete a full accident form, providing details of the incident.

Please note that the hirer is liable for the full insurance excess payable on demand. In instances where the third party is at fault, the full insurance excess is payable initially. However, this amount will be refunded once confirmation and acceptance of liability are received from the third party insurers.
